The Big Pink’s ‘Dominos’ has been doing the rounds on the blogosphere for moons now and it is this song that put me off listening to this album sooner. Dominos is terrace-shanty type lager-boy drivel fest compared to the rest of this accomplished LP. It looks as though 2009 is shaping up to be a good year for British bands and ‘A Brief History Of Love’ is about three tracks away from being a stand out album this year. There are moments of sheer brilliance, such as ‘Too Young To Love’, ‘Crystal Visions’ and ‘Velvet’ and moments of sheer toss, well perhaps toss is a little over the top – it’s just that it beggars belief that the same gaggle of musicians that are making exquisite noisy as hell uber-bangers like Too Young To Love can somehow manage to fart out pathetic wank juice like dominos. It’s not far off being an excellent album and The Big Pink will be a band to watch out for if they can cut the wheat from the chaff in the future.
