When I first heard about this seemingly absurd reincarnation by California punk rockers The Bronx, I thought they had been puffing too much of the old Mexican Grass. However, the new sound is remarkable, it’s endearing and well played. It isn’t just a humorous pastiche as I earlier imagined, the lyrics are intelligent and heartfelt and the Mariachi backing is the best of Mexican and Latin American influences – It’s the soundtrack of Southern California.
